T.V. Paul, Distinguished James 91社区 Professor in the Department of Political Science was recently awarded the newly established Kim Dae-jung Award by the International Political Science Association.
鈥淭he Kim Dae-Jung Award is a significant international recognition of my scholarship on peace and peaceful change,鈥� says Professor Paul. 鈥淧resident Kim played a major role in South Korea鈥檚 democratic transition and his effort at peaceful rapprochement with North Korea through his 鈥榮unshine policy鈥� was recognized globally when he received the Nobel prize for peace in 2000.鈥�
Professor Paul鈥檚 research and contributions in the field of international relations, especially international security, regional security and South Asia has garnered him several accolades over the years, such as the ISA-Canada Distinguished Scholar Award in 2024 and the establishment of the T.V. Paul Best Book Award by the Global International Studies Section (GIRS) of the International Studies Associations in 2023.
In recognition of his honour by the IPSA, Professor Paul will participate in the Kim Dae-jung Award Roundtable at the upcoming 2025 IPSA World Congress of Political Science on July 14. The roundtable will focus on global peace, democracy and human rights.
鈥淚t is an honor to receive the inaugural award,鈥� says Paul. 鈥淭he proposed panel will be an opportunity to hear more about [Dae-jung鈥檚] efforts and the possible connections [the IPSA] see in my work in the areas of peace and peaceful change.鈥�
