Specifically\, we will cover the different assumptions required and types of analyses one c an use when trying to synthesize information from different sources. We wi ll begin by considering the case of estimating a mean for single character istic from different studies. We will discuss different estimators and dia gnostic plots that can be used estimate quantities of interest and to asse ss the assumptions necessary for proper inference.  Then we will consider methods for synthesizing comparisons amongst two or more groups across dif ferent contexts and different approaches that can be used. Finally\, we wi ll briefly discuss how to use study level information to adjust for hetero geneity across data sources.\n\nParticipants will get access to several wo rked examples written in R\, mostly using the meta and metafor R packages. \n\nAt the end of this workshop\, you will be able to:\n   - Understand the assumptions necessary for proper synthesis of estimates from multiple dat a sources.\n   - Understand the different estimators that can be used and w hich estimators are likely to perform better in which context.\n   - Unders tand the differences between arm-based and contrast-based estimation for s ynthesizing measures from multiple groups.\n    - Conduct exploratory analy ses\, fit standard meta-analysis models and assess fidelity to model assum ptions using the meta and metafor packages in R.\n\nPrerequisites:\n    - A n undergraduate/graduate introduction to statistics (basic knowledge of me ans\, variances\, hypothesis testing and confidence intervals)\;\n    - Bas ic knowledge of R (basic R commands and understanding of how to analyze da ta in R)\n       · Install R and RStudio on your computer. You can find ins tallation instructions here. Please contact us (cdsi.science [at] mcgill.c a) if you are having trouble with installation.\n       · You need to bring your own laptop for this workshop. Contact us if you would like to attend but it's impossible for you to bring a laptop.\n\n\n Location: HYBRID. Onl ine via Zoom\, or in-person at Burnside Hall room 1104 (11th floor).\n Inst ructor: Prof. Russell Steele\, Dept. of Mathematics and Statistics\, McGil l.\n\nRegistration: Register here\n DTSTART:20250131T150000Z DTEND:20250131T170000Z SUMMARY:Meta-Analysis URL:/cdsi/channels/event/meta-analysis-364047 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
