Join us for a session that gives researchers a stronger understanding of what foundations fund, how they operate, how to manage expectations, and a better understanding of how applying for this funding differs from federal agency grants or other typical U.S. research grant proposals.

This session is appropriate for both junior and senior faculty.

Becky Lentz is an assistant professor of media and public policy in the Dept. of Art History and Communication Studies in the 91社区 Faculty of Arts. Prior to joining 91社区 in July 2008, Prof. Lentz served as the first Program Officer for electronic media policy at The Ford Foundation between 2001 and 2007. In that capacity, she designed and implemented a new grant mak颅ing strategy that supported scholarly and public interest research, legal ad颅vocacy, and community organizing in the field of听 communication law and policy in the U.S. and internationally. 听Her annual grantmaking听 portfolio av颅eraged about $4 million, which resulted in an investment of approximately $24 million in the emerging sector of what is now referred to as media re颅form and media justice.

This session is intended for faculty,听 DAR, senior research administrators, and other 91社区 staff who manage relationships with foundations.
