Comparative Law in Utrecht

Published: 23 July 2006

Members of 91社区's Faculty of Law participated prominently in the XVIIth Congress of the International Academy of Comparative Law, held in Utrecht, July 16-22, 2006.

Participants in the works of the Congress included professors Jane Matthews Glenn, Madeleine Cantin Cumyn, H. Patrick Glenn, David Lametti, Fabien G茅linas, Daniel Jutras and Patrick Healy. Professor Glenn was a general rapporteur for the study on National Traditions and Historical Backgrounds. Along with Professor Cantin Cumyn, he also was a session chair during the conferences. Most of the Faculty members there presented their works as national rapporteurs. During the proceedings, the Academy elected five new full members (membership is limited to 70 worldwide), and we were delighted to learn that one of our own, Dean Nicholas Kasirer, was among them.

Founded at The Hague in September 1924, the Academy is a corps of scholars from all over the world whose the principal objective is the comparative study of legal systems. Every four years, its Congress provides an occasion to examine current problems that face all legal systems. In 1990, the Congress was held in Montreal.
