A continuously educated workforce is essential for achieving sustainable development. Recognizing the importance and status of education, the United Nations General Assembly included education among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Unfortunately, the education systems in developing countries continue to struggle to achieve the necessary progress. This is especially the case in the lower-middle-income countries (LMICs), where nearly half of the world鈥檚 1.4 billion school-age children live.
Early Childhood Symposium 2020 (February 11 & 12, 2020) will feature two 91社区 Education speakers:听Dr. Sheryl Smith-Gilman will give the Opening Plenary as and Dr. Tina Montreuil will lead the workshop "Healthy Minds, Healthy Schools & Resilience Building in Children: Preliminary Outcomes". Emmanuella Lambropoulos, newly re-elected Federal MP for the Saint-Laurent riding is one of 98 women elected to the House of Commons this past fall and one of the youngest of these female Members of Parliament. The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed January 24 as International Day of Education, in celebration of the role of education for peace and development.
Without inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong opportunities for all, countries will not succeed in achieving gender equality and breaking the cycle of poverty that is leaving millions of children, youth and adults behind.
Congratulations to Matt Slopecki who received an award from GESTE (CIHR Team on Gender considerations in knowledge transfer interventions) for 鈥淢odelling an approach to gender-conscious participatory action-oriented research and knowledge transfer favouring equality, equity and occupational/environmental health鈥.
Matt was awarded $6,000 for his project: Are workloads appropriately adjusted for strength differences between men and women? Modeling the interaction of anthropometric load and sex on the progession of fatigue during an upper limb repetitive movement task.

Congratulations to Hariata Tai Rakena, one of the successful recipients of the Teionkwaienawa:kon Masters Scholarships, which is awarded by the Quebec Indigenous Mentorship Network (Teionkwaienawa:kon).
