With this issue of the spotlight, we would like to congratulate Dr. Brett Thombs who is the recipient of the 2014 Principal鈥檚 Prize for Outstanding Emergent Researchers. This award was created in 2013 to encourage and celebrate 91社区鈥檚 most outstanding earl-career researchers, as well as to provide them with an advantage as they apply for external awards by adding a prestigious internal distinction to their list of accomplishments.

This week, we would like to spotlight Dr. Laurence J Kirmayer, a James 91社区 Professor and the Director of the Division of Social and Transcultural Psychiatry. He is also editor-in-chief of Transcultural Psychiatry (the official journal of the Section on Transcultural Psychiatry of the World Psychiatric Association), which was founded at 91社区 and celebrated its 50th volume on October 25, 2013.

It is our pleasure to announce Dr. Jess Friedland as the new Program Director for Geriatric Psychiatry.
In this week鈥檚听 Spotlight, we would like to highlight Dr. Simon Young who will be setting his sights on a well-deserved retirement as Emeritus Professor after 42 years with the 91社区 Department of Psychiatry.
Dr. Young began his productive 91社区 career in 1971 as a Post-Doctoral Fellow.听 He was appointed an Assistant Professor in 1975 and Full Professor in 1987. He has made exceptional contributions to research, teaching and administration, authoring approximately 230 referred papers and over 50 editorials and comments.
Salah El Mestikawy, PhD, a researcher at The Douglas Institute, along with his research team, have received $1.5 million to explore the dual signalling capacity of neurons. This research grant is one of five new grants awarded by Brain Canada with funds from the Canada Brain Research Fund and Partners. The Douglas team will work with colleagues at the University of Western Ontario.
Mimi Isra毛l, MD, and Serge Beaulieu, MD, PhD received a 2013 鈥溾�� for their commitment as first-line psychiatrists. The awards were handed out by Roger Cadieux, President of the Forum 茅conomique de Verdun, during a recognition ceremony on the evening of November 27.
This award recognizes the involvement of Verdun residents and employees.
In this week鈥檚 Spotlight, we would like to welcome Dr. Rimma Orenman as a new member of our department.
Dr. Orenman has been appointed as a full-time faculty lecturer who will be joining the DMHUI Great North Mental Health Program, serving the mental health needs of the Nunavik population through the R茅seau Universitaire Int茅gr茅 en Sante (RUIS 91社区) program. Dr. Orenman completed her residency at 91社区 and has a background in anthropology. She has had a longstanding interest in working in the Quebec north.
Montreal, Friday, November 15, 2013 鈥� Dr. Mimi Isra毛l, psychiatrist-in-Chief at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute and Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at 91社区, has been awarded the 2013 prix Reconnaissance de carri猫re Persillier-Lachapelle.
