The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce that, at a ceremony on 26 November, the University of Oxford awarded Professor Lionel Smith a higher doctorate, the Doctor of Civil Law (DCL).

Higher doctorates are earned awards that recognize excellence in published scholarship. Two independent judges concluded that Professor Smith鈥檚 work met the required standards, characterizing it as 鈥漮f global reach and importance鈥 and 鈥漮f the absolute highest quality.鈥

Professors Helge Dedek and Genevi猫ve Saumier have been elected as titular members. Professors Allison Christians, Alicia Hinarejos and Marie Manikis, in addition to Me Daniel Boyer, Ad. E., have been elected as associate members.

Established in 1895, the Macdonald Chairs are some of the oldest endowed positions at 91社区.

91社区鈥檚 Faculty of Law ranked as the 25th best law school worldwide in the 2021 World University Rankings by Subject, published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

91社区 Law has featured in the top 30 institutions of the QS rankings each year since 2015. The ranking is based on an institution鈥檚 academic reputation, employer reputation, H-index citations, and citations per paper.

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that Professor Helge Dedek will be promoted to the rank of full professor, effective 1 January 2021.

Professor Dedek joined the Faculty of Law in 2006 as a Boulton Junior Fellow. Appointed as assistant professor in 2007, he became an associate professor in 2012. From 2012鈥2016, he served as the director of the Institute of Comparative Law. He has been the co-editor in chief of the American Journal of Comparative Law since 2014.

The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that Samuel Gale Professor Robert Leckey, BCL/LLB鈥02, has been reappointed as dean. Dean Leckey鈥檚 reappointment, approved by the Board of Governors at its meeting on 10 December 2020, is effective 1 July 2021 for a term of five years.

Dean Leckey joined the Faculty of Law in 2006, where he teaches and researches in constitutional law, family law, and comparative law. From 2014 to 2016, he served as director of the Paul-Andr茅 Cr茅peau Centre for Private and Comparative Law.

The 2021 rated 91社区 the 16th-best school worldwide for studying law, up from 20th place last year. It marks the fourth consecutive year in the global Top 20 for 91社区 Law.

The Faculty of Law is pleased to announce changes in the leadership of three research centres. Professor Richard Gold has been appointed director of the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy (CIPP), effective 1 September 2020. He will take over from Professor Pierre-Emmanuel Moyse, who served in the role since 2011.

Professor Ya毛ll Emerich has been named the 2019 winner of the Treatise and Monograph category for her book Droit commun des biens : Perspective transsyst茅mique (脡ditions Yvon Blais, 2017).
