Through its Health and Social Services Community Leadership Bursary Program, Dialogue 91社区 awarded a total of $325,000 to 51 health and social services students from 14 Quebec regions in the 2020-2021 academic year. Depending on the bursary category and level of study, recipients will receive anywhere from $2,500 to $10,000. The recipients have committed to working in their home region following the successful completion of their studies for a minimum of one year in a public health and social services institution or related organization.

Psychology researchers at 91社区 have used network science 鈥 a mathematical technique for revealing connections and patterns 鈥 to gain novel insights into Montrealers鈥 experience of using French and English.

The unique approach has brought to light subtle differences as to which social settings Montreal bilinguals discuss certain topics and whether they use French, English or both languages to discuss those topics.

In response to the current health crisis, the latest Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada Partnership Engagement Grants competition included a special initiative for research related to COVID-19. More than $3听million was awarded to 139 projects across the country. CIRM is proud to announce that two of its members have received funding as principal investigators and will contribute to efforts to address the challenges posed by the pandemic in their respective fields.

August 17, 2020 | Since the start of this year, there have been increasing calls for the Canadian government听to impose a national moratorium on facial recognition technology. This demand arises from the possibility that law enforcement will use facial recognition听to discriminate against certain demographics and worsen discrimination in the justice system. A moratorium would provide legislators time to develop a comprehensive and effective policy regulating听 FR technology and the data it collects, uses, and shares.
