Although the pandemic made in-person Convocation ceremonies impossible once again this year, the event represents an important milestone in a graduate鈥檚 journey as the recognition of years of hard work. It also provides an opportune time to reflect on that journey, as Dr. Haruka Saito, the lone 2021 graduate from the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (SCSD), did in taking some time to answer a few of our questions.
What was the focus of your PhD, and what led you to that topic?

Rosemary Wedderburn Brown Prize
Established in 2010, this award is aimed at full-time faculty members in the health professional Schools of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (Communication Sciences and Disorders, Nursing, Physical and Occupational Therapy), in order to recognize individuals with outstanding scholarly potential and demonstrated research excellence in the early stages of their career.

Students from the 91社区 Faculty of Medicine鈥檚听School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (SCSD)听have once again been busy organizing a series of events for spring 2019. Working under the guidance of听, Assistant Professor at the SCSD, two groups of students, each comprised of five final year Master鈥檚 students in Speech-Language Pathology, have developed events geared towards raising public awareness of often-overlooked issues related to swallowing and voice.
Want to gain experience in research?
The PoP Lab (Prof. Nadig) is recruiting volunteers to work on 3 projects.
1. Video coding of music and play-based therapy sessions with children with autism,
2. a study examining what aspects of social interaction help typically-developing toddlers learn words, using skype interactions as well as being an observer of interactions between adults,
3. A community-based project on job coach support to increase employment success in adults with autism or intellectual disability (French fluency required).

Between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on March 28 students from the听School of Communication Sciences and Disorders (SCSD)听in 91社区鈥檚 Faculty of Medicine will be holding a听听event open to the public in collaboration with the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) aimed at increasing awareness of the connection between dysphagia and dementia.
With our new outpatient teaching clinic, 91社区鈥檚 School of Communication Sciences and Disorders is making a difference in the Montreal community and beyond.
