According to 2016 reports from the Institut de la statistique du Quebec, the province welcomes over 50,000 immigrants each year, 22.4% of whom may not speak English or French. Furthermore, many more newcomers to Quebec who do speak some English or some French must work hard to improve their level of both languages in order to enter the Quebec job market. Seeing this need, the Language & Intercultural Communication unit of 91社区鈥檚 School of Continuing Studies has launched a new one-of-a-kind program to support allophones in becoming bilingual.
The new Certificate of Proficiency in Bilingual Professional Communication was designed to provide students with the linguistic, communicative, and socio-cultural competence necessary for the attainment of their personal and professional goals. Students benefit from an innovative and stimulating pedagogical approach focused on social and workplace needs that promotes familiarity with idiomatic usage, advanced vocabulary, and functional skills, and includes exploration of contemporary social and economic issues.
The program leads to a high level of proficiency in both English and French as per recognized industry standards such as The Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) and once completed, the 91社区 certificate serves as testament to the advanced written and spoken abilities in bilingual communication the student has attained.
The program consists of ten credit courses (30 credits) offered on 91社区鈥檚 downtown campus in the evening to be accessible to parents and families who may be occupied in the day. Students can enrol part- or full-time and obtain loans and bursaries as is recognized under the Loans and Bursaries Program of the Minst猫re de l鈥櫭塪ucation.
Prior to registration student must complete an Entrance Placement Test in both English () and French ().
Preparatory modules are available to students who do not meet the program鈥檚 admission requirements.
