The ELC program is designed to enable you to achieve an advanced level of English and a deep understanding of culture in the English-speaking world.
You will receive the 91ÉçÇø Certificate of Proficiency in English – Language and Culture and be recognized at 91ÉçÇø as meeting the English language requirements for entry at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.Ìý You will also meet international standards such as the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB).
Upon completion, you will be able to:
Follow university-level academic courses in English successfully
Function comfortably in an English-speaking work environment
Write clear and coherent academic and professional texts in English
Express yourself confidently and appropriately in any situation

Placement Test Fee
In order to begin studying in the Certificate of Proficiency in English Language and Culture, all new students are required to take an online Placement Test. Test results are used to evaluate your current level of proficiency and place you in the appropriate level/course according our program structure. Students can take the test only once per session and the results are valid for one year.
Placement test fee: $44.35Ìý
We strongly suggest that you to register to a placement test as soon as possible to secure your place in a course. If you were not able to register for a placement test, please contact us to make an alternate test arrangement at language.conted [at] mcgill.ca.

Program Application Fee
A non-refundable application fee of $98.43 CAN ($101.38Ìýas of winter 2024) is required to apply to all SCS programs (paid online by credit card).
