DESCRIPTION:\n\nFive Days of Action is an opportunity for the University of
  Victoria community to come together in our shared commitment to create a 
 more diverse\, inclusive and equitable campus and community. Organized aro
 und five “calls to action\,” this is a week for us to listen\, reflect\, d
 ialogue\, engage\, and take action. Working to address systemic forms of r
 acism\, sexism\, transphobia\, homophobia\, ableism\, and religious intole
 rance\, alongside other forms of oppression\, can require vulnerability an
 d difficult conversations. By centering care in all stages of planning and
  delivery\, we strive to create opportunities for all campus community mem
 bers to be part of Five Days of Action.\n\nDr. Shaheen Shariff\, James McG
 ill Professor and Director of iMPACTS\, is participating in a panel\, titl
 ed 'Artful Action: Art for Addressing and Preventing Sexualized Violence.'
  The panel is also part of a participatory art exhibition at UVic’s A. Wil
 frid Johns Gallery\, entitled playing WITH – playing OUT. With this exhibi
 tion\, Natasha S. Reid (Assistant Professor\, Art Education\, Department o
 f Curriculum & Instruction) and Caroline Boileau (Multidisciplinary Artist
 \, Curator\, and Art Educator) are exploring how participatory artistic me
 thods can situate a university gallery space as a creative laboratory for 
 engaging with and encouraging consent-based culture. This panel will explo
 re how art and art spaces can be effective sites for addressing and preven
 ting sexualized violence.\n\nIn addition to Dr. Shariff\, the panel will i
 nclude Caroline Boileau\, Multidisciplinary Artist\, Curator\, and Art Edu
 cator\; Reem Girgrah\, Sexualized Violence Prevention and Education Office
 r\, UVic’s Office of Equity and Human Rights\; Niko Mumford\, Education Co
 ordinator\, UVic’s Anti-Violence Project\; and Natasha S. Reid\, Assistant
