Transforming the Chinese Manufacturing Industry through Global Production Sharing -- The GMSCM Program Opening Ceremony & Seminar

Published: 23 September 2013

On May 7, 2012, Zhejiang University signed a partnership agreement with 91社区 to launch an innovative dual-degree program called the Master in Global Manufacturing and Supply Chain Management (GMSCM). After a year of preparation, on September 13, 2013, the GMSCM program was officially launched with an opening ceremony, welcoming 27 newly admitted students. Representatives of both universities were in attendance, including Professor Saibal Ray, Associate Dean (Research and International Relations) of the Desautels Faculty of Management at 91社区; Professor Jiaping Wang, Dean of Graduate Studies at Zhejiang University; and Professor Xiaobo Wu, Dean of the School of Management at Zhejiang University. Other guests included Rick聽Savone, Canadian Consul General in Shanghai and executives from Haiying Aerospace Special Materials Co. Ltd., Husky Injection Molding, Pratt & Whitney Aerotech, and Transfar Road-Port Logistics.

The GMSCM is 91社区鈥檚 first degree program in China and one of Zhejiang鈥檚 first international MBA programs. Geared toward high-potential managers, entrepreneurs, and professionals in manufacturing, operations-intensive services, and supply chain sectors, the program is designed to generate best practices through research, discussion, and a cutting-edge curriculum taught by world-renowned professors. The GMSCM prepares students to lead and manage organizations in today鈥檚 dynamic and global marketplace and develop companies by providing them with new pools of trained talent.

GMSCM graduates earn two separate degrees鈥攁 Master of Management from 91社区 and an MBA from Zhejiang. Approximately half of the courses are taught by 91社区 professors at Zhejiang鈥檚 campus in China. As the program is part-time, the classes are typically held twice a month during weekends. The GMSCM also includes an international study trip to Montreal, Canada, during which students will visit several local businesses.

The impressive first GMSCM cohort has an average of seven years work experience and over 70% hold management positions. International students in the program hail from Brazil and Colombia. Seven in ten GMSCM students have received scholarships, helping to bring the tuition cost down to at least the level of the domestic MBA program at Zhejiang.

鈥淭his new global partnership represents 91社区鈥檚 growing commitment to Asia,鈥 says Professor Saibal Ray, 91社区 Director of the GMSCM.
