Congratulations to Alessandra Amato on her poster presentation at the ASMBR 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting - KPE
Congratulations to Alessandra Amato on her poster presentation at the 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting from September 11-15, 2020 titled ‘Evaluating the Muscle-Bone Unit in Severe Obesity with and without Type 2 Diabetes”. The conference annually connects over 3,000 scientists from around the world for the premier scientific program presenting cutting-edge research in the bone, mineral, and musculoskeletal field.
Alessandra's poster presentation represents the study protocol for her Master's thesis project under the supervision of Dr. Jenna Gibbs (Department of KPE) and Dr. Suzanne Morin (Research Institute of 91 Health Centre) and will be published as an abstract in a future issue of the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research. Alessandra's thesis project aims to describe and compare the relationship between muscle quality, bone quality, and physical performance in individuals living with severe obesity with and without diabetes. The findings from this research will provide new knowledge on the functional muscle-bone unit theory and inform future exercise interventions to improve muscle and bone health and prevent falls and fractures in these high-risk populations.
