BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Miguel Hernan conducts research on how to do research. He is especially interested in causal inference methods to evaluate the comparative effectiveness of strategies for the treatment and prevention of cancer, HIV disease, and cardiovascular disease. Together with collaborators in several countries, he designs analyses of electronic health records, epidemiologic studies, and pragmatic randomized trials. Miguel teaches at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where he is a professor in the departments of Epidemiology and Biostatistics, the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology, and the Harvard Medical School. He has mentored over 30 doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows at Harvard. He has served on committees for the National Academy of Medicine and the National Research Council. He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Chair of the Section on Statistics and Epidemiology of the American Statistical Association, Associate Editor of the American Journal of Epidemiology and of the Journal of the American Statistical Association, former Associate Editor of Biometrics, and an Editor of EPIDEMIOLOGY.
