Construction Start: Otto Maass Chemistry - CFI IF 2020, Cooke

Please be advised that 91ÉçÇø has mandated Constructions Seni Inc. to carry out the following project: 19-078 Otto Maass Chemistry – CFI IF 2020, Cooke.

The project consists of the transformation of the existing wet laboratory OM 025 into a dry laboratory to accommodate new class-4 lasers.

Construction start date: June 10, 2024

Planned construction end date: January 2025

Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Additional hours to be coordinated with affected stakeholders.

Scope of work:

Renovation of the existing wet laboratory OM 025 located in the basement level of Otto Maass to accommodate new class-4 lasers.

An exterior HVAC condenser unit servicing laboratory OM 025 will be placed outside, in a secure area.

Impact & remediation:

Access:

  • Circulation in the corridors of the Otto Maass Building basement will be reduced. However, access to all laboratories and spaces will be maintained for occupants.
  • The contractor will need to access student lounge 08, washrooms 015 and 016, and cleaners’ closets 023 and 033 for the installation or modification of electromechanical services. This work will be coordinated in advance with the building director and the building occupants.

Service shutdowns:

  • Service shutdowns will be required. Occupants of the building will be informed in advance.

Safety considerations:

The project includes demolition work that may disrupt materials containing silica, lead, and asbestos. All applicable safety protocols will be put in place. The safety protocols include dust-containment methods such as setting up enclosures to isolate the work area and putting it under negative pressure, as well as using specialized vacuuming equipment. It will also include cleaning and regular inspections.
