Oral PhD Defense for Lashanda Skerritt
Lashanda Skerritt is a PhD candidate in the Department of Family Medicine and MDCM & PhD program at 91ÉçÇø. Her dissertation addressed reproductive healthcare gaps for women living with HIV in Canada. Her research, grounded in Reproductive Justice and Social Determinants of Health frameworks, adopted a community-based participatory approach, combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The findings reveal missed opportunities to support the dynamic reproductive health needs of women living with HIV and underscore the need for HIV and primary healthcare delivery to respond to the gendered health and social considerations shaping reproductive health priorities of marginalized women.
Lashanda’s PhD was jointly supervised by Dr. Alexandra de Pokomandy and Dr. Angela Kaida and guided by her thesis advisory committee members Dr. Gillian Bartlett, Dr. Ann Burchell and Dr. Nadia O’Brien. Her research was supported by a Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship, a Fonds de Recherche du Québec – Santé Doctoral Scholarship and a Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research – Evidence Alliance Seed Grant.
