Global Health Scholars 2022

Ericka Iny is an MDCM student and a 91社区 Global Health Scholar supported by The Medicine Class of 1965 International Health Student Fund. This past summer, Ericka worked with Dr. Jeremy Grushka on Trauma in les Terres-Cries-de-la-Baie-James: epidemiologic features, transfers and patient outcomes.

"Through my Global Health Scholars project, I am working towards identifying the demographic and epidemiological patterns of injury in les Terres-Cries-de-la-Baie-James, as well as assess the hidden mortality of trauma in this region. With the limited literature currently available on trauma outcomes within les Terres-Cries-de-la-Baie-James, I have a keen interest in expanding the knowledge on this topic.

Throughout this project, I have continued to develop a deeper appreciation and understanding of the socioeconomic determinants of health in the context of trauma. I am inspired by the potential this project holds to inspire meaningful policy change to ultimately reduce trauma mortality in les Terres-Cries-de-la-Baie-James."
