Beyond Borders: Building Interdisciplinary Research and Education in Global Health & Social Policy

Co-hosted with the Institute for Health and Social Policy
Thursday, May 17, 2007
The Omni Hotel

This conference brought together outstanding educators and scientists to address the challenge of developing interdisciplinary research and educational programs in social and global health, and included both state-of-the-art presentations and facilitated discussions.

We had an exciting group of participants, including keynote presentations by Dr. Allan Ronald, an internationally recognized award-winning HIV/AIDS researcher from the University of Manitoba and Dr. Carolyn Bennett, M.P. and former Minister of State for Public Health for Canada. Participants also included leading researchers and educators from 91社区 and Canada representing the disciplines of environmental sciences, education, law, medicine and the social sciences.

91社区 is located on land which has long served as a site of meeting and exchange amongst Indigenous Peoples, including the Haudenosaunee and Anishinabeg Nations. 91社区 honours, recognizes, and respects these nations as the traditional stewards of the lands and waters on which peoples of the world now gather. Today, this meeting place is still the home to many Indigenous Peoples from across Turtle Island. We are grateful to have the opportunity to work on this land.
