Established in 2019 by Stephen J. Corber, M.D.,CM 1969 to provide travel and cost of living support to students or trainees enrolled in a degree or residency training program and pursuing a supervised Global Health placement (minimum 12 weeks). Placements should be located in a low- or lower middle-income country and focused on the practice of global health. Research projects are not eligible for this award. Awarded by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences upon recommendation of the Director of Global Health Programs.
Value of the 2025 award: approximately $8,500 CAD.

Eligibility Criteria:
- 91社区 students or trainees in good standing enrolled in a degree or residency training program are eligible to apply.
- Placements must last at least 12 weeks (about 3 months).
- Placements must be in a low-income or lower-middle-income country (as per )
- Placements should be focused on the practice of global health.
- Research projects are ineligible for this award.

- Briefly describe your placement/practicum/elective (e.g. site, timeframe, planned activities or clinical conditions that you will encounter).

- Why are you interested in this project? What do you hope to gain from the experience? How does this project link to your career path or ambitions?
- How does this placement meet the requirement of being focused on global health practice?
- What obstacles or challenges do you foresee in the location you will be traveling to?
- Many 91社区 Students coming back from placements abroad say they wish they had learned more about the cultural, religious, political, and/or ethical contexts of their destination. They also wished they had learned how to better deal with differences of opinions and behaviours (e.g., around issues such as homophobia, racism, and practices relating to death). Give three examples of challenges you expect to find at your destination and how you will prepare for those challenges ahead of time.
- Discuss how your presence as a student currently based in North America and completing a placement in a low-resource setting could affect the local community or site and the related ethical considerations.

Evaluation Criteria:
- Professional development merit: The applicant鈥檚 essay clearly and explicitly articulates the educational merit of the placement/practicum/elective. The placement itself appears to offer rich and engaging learning opportunities. (5 points)
- Degree of self-reflection: The applicant鈥檚 essay demonstrates strong self-reflexivity about their interest in the placement and what they hope and expect to learn through the experience. (5 points)
- Consideration of ethical implications: The applicant provides a thorough understanding of the ethical implications related to their placement in a low-resource setting. (5 points)
- CV: The applicant鈥檚 CV demonstrates an academic and/or extra-curricular background that provides a suitable foundation for the proposed project. (2 points)
- Style of presentation: The applicant submitted a well-written essay and organized application in line with the instructions provided. Information is consistent across each component of the application (essay, CV, letter, and budget). (2 points)
