Program Description
The Master of Arts (M.A.) in Religious Studies (Thesis) offered by the Department of Religious Studies in the Faculty of Arts is a research-intensive program that emphasizes tailored and intensive learning opportunities. The program's objective is to equip students with skills in critical thinking, literature review, and scientific communication to either continue their studies or pursue professional opportunities.
The program may also be taken as one of the following options:
Bioethics option: combines course work, a bioethics practicum and a Master's thesis on bioethics. Through this option, students develop the conceptual frameworks and tools to address fundamental questions about life and the interventions by healthcare in research, policy and practice.聽
Gender and Women's Studies option: is available for those who wish to focus their research on gender-related issues and feminist research and methodologies. Students in this option produce thesis on a topic that significantly engages with issues of gender and/or women and/or feminism
Unique Program Features
- The School is affiliated with the Montreal Diocesan Theological College of the Anglican Church of Canada, the Presbyterian College Montreal, and the United Theological College of the United Church of Canada;
- Students receive external and internal funding. Additionally, funding is available for travel for the purposes of research (including archival research or field work) and the dissemination of research (including conference presentations and talks).
University-Level Admission Requirements
- An eligible Bachelor's degree with a minimum 3.0 GPA out of a possible 4.0 GPA
- English-language proficiency
