We are pleased to announce the appointment of Lynne McVey, MSc, as Associate Dean and Director of the Ingram School of Nursing (ISoN), Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), 91ÉçÇø, effective October 1, 2024. Prof. McVey will replace Anita Gagnon, PhD, whose achievements in the position include, among other things, the launch of Quebec’s first online Bachelor of Nursing (Integrated) Program and the launch of three new Nurse Practitioner (NP) concentrations. Under Prof. Gagnon’s leadership, ISoN also moved from Wilson Hall to its current location at 680 Sherbrooke, successfully leveraged philanthropic support to launch innovative initiatives such as the creation of nurse, and nurse practitioner, – led community clinics, and created the Office of Social Accountability in Nursing and the Clinical Partnership Office. We’d like to thank Prof. Gagnon for her dedication and vision in leading ISoN for the past nine years.
Prof. McVey is a two-time graduate of 91ÉçÇø, obtaining a BSc in Physiology followed by an MSc in Nursing. Her further studies included a one-year fellowship in the Wharton Fellows Program in Health Management for Nurse Executives at the Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, as well as the Strategy for Healthcare Delivery Program at Harvard Business School.
Since 2008, she has been Associate Professor (adjunct) in ISoN, and most recently served as a developer on two online Executive Education programs, the first launched for nurses in 2023, and an advanced curriculum for all healthcare professionals launching this fall.
Prof. McVey is recognized for her extensive experience in both nursing practice and healthcare executive leadership. From 2012 to 2015, she served as Executive Director of the Douglas Mental Health University Institute. From 2015 to 2022, Prof. McVey held consecutive positions at the Centre intégré universitaire de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, first appointed as Associate President and CEO, then in 2018, President and CEO. Since 2022, she has served as CEO of Santé Monde, a not-for-profit organization in global health affiliated with Université Laval and funded through Global Affairs Canada and World Bank grants.
Early in her career, Prof. McVey worked at the Jewish General Hospital and over the course of nearly two decades there she held a number of roles, including Director of Clinical Operations and Nursing and co-director of the Segal Cancer Centre.
Prof. McVey was recently named one of the Women We Admire – Top Women Leaders of Montreal for the second year in a row. In 2017, she received the 91ÉçÇø Medicine Alumni Global Impact Award of Merit, in 2013, the YWCA Montreal Woman of Distinction Award (Health category), and in 2010, the Prix Florence Leadership Award from l’Ordre des infirmières et infirmiers du Québec.
As Associate Dean and Director of ISoN, Prof. McVey will direct the activities of the School across its educational, research and service missions. She will oversee faculty recruitment, mentorship and career development, and guide the School’s relationships with clinical and community partners, other academic institutions and governmental agencies, as well as with the various Schools and programs within the FMHS. Prof. McVey will advise the VP-Dean on recruitment, academic appointments, promotion and tenure within ISoN, and will represent the School as a member of the Faculty Deanery Executive. She will lead ISoN’s strategic planning, oversee budgets and continue to promote the highest standards of excellence in all areas of the School’s activities.
