It was a momentous day as students from the Class of 2027 attended orientation, which kicked off with an official welcome from Lesley Fellows, MDCM, DPhil, Vice-Principal (Health Affairs) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Elham Emami, D.D.S., Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Sciences, and Mélanie Mondou, MDCM, Associate Dean of Undergraduate Medical Education, and others.
Presenting at the MDCM and DMD orientation for the first time, VP-Dean Fellows opened the day by welcoming the new cohort with words of encouragement for the Class of 2027: “Take the time to enjoy and engage with it all,” urged Dr. Fellows. “91 is a world-leading university with an international reach—take full advantage of what is on offer.” She added: “Learning medicine is about your own growth as a human being, understanding your own strengths and limitations and discovering your passions.”
Day one also included talks by Danyèle Lacombe, MD, Vice Dean and Director, Campus Outaouais, and the Medical Students Society (MSS) and Dental Students Society (DSS) presidents. Medical students also got the opportunity to learn about key Faculty supports services such as the Office for Respectful Environments, and the Office of Medical Learner Affairs.
MDCM students from both the Montreal campus and Campus Outaouais were present, which offered an opportunity for the two cohorts to meet and mingle. The MDCM Class of 2027 is comprised of 190 students based on the Montreal Campus, and 28 students on Campus Outaouais. Students hail from 31 different countries, with three international students joining the program this year.
Aiman Hadif, from Malaysia, is one of them. He explained the reasons behind his long-standing commitment to studying at 91: “I did my Bachelor’s and my Master’s here in Speech Language Pathology. I chose to study medicine as I wanted to see the two aspects: from the living aspect in speech pathology and communication disorders, to looking at the survival side of life. In 2027, I will have been at 91 for 10 years!”
Welcome to all students in the Class of 2027!
