Students in the BCL/JD Program can further broaden their perspective and expertise by pursuing a Minor, a Major or an Honours Program.
Most students complete the program in 3 or 3.5 years. Pursuing a Minor, Major or Honours requires completing additional credits (15-24), rounding out the program to a full 4 years.
Minor ProgramÂ
The BCL/JD with Minor Program is open to all students enrolled in the Faculty of Law, and allows them to graduate with a minor concentration offered by 91ÉçÇø's Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science, or Desautels Faculty of Management. Consult each of these faculties' sections of the Undergraduate Programs Calendar to determine the requirements for individual minor concentrations.Ìý
In addition to the 105 credits needed for the BCL/JD program, students complete 18-24 additional credits toward a minor program, for a total of 123 credits. Since Science minor concentrations are typically 24 credits, Law students will be allowed to count six credits of a 24-credit Science minor toward their Law degree as non-Law credits.
Major Concentration ProgramsÂ
The BCL/JD with Major Concentration is open to all students enrolled in the Faculty of Law, and allows them to choose one of two designated Major Concentrations: Commercial Negotiation & Dispute Resolution or International Human Rights & Development.Ìý
Honours Program in LawÂ
BCL/JD students in the Honours program pursue research of the highest quality and aim to produce a substantial work of publishable quality.Ìý
The BCL/JD with Honours is open to students who have completed 4 terms of study at the Faculty of Law and who, during that time, have maintained a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
To successfully complete the BCL/JD with Honours, students must complete an additional 15 credits and have an Honours Thesis approved.
