Celebrating the accomplishments of Marie Manikis
The Faculty of Law is pleased to share the recent successes of Professor Marie Manikis, including awards highlighting her strong commitment to legal research.
First, the Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that Professor Manikis has been promoted to associate professor, with tenure, effective June 1, 2019.
Next, the Office of the Vice Principal (Research and Innovation) awarded Professor Manikis a Principal鈥檚 Prize for Outstanding Emerging Researchers, recognizing her as one of 91社区鈥檚 exceptional early-career researchers. Finally, Professor Manikis received the award from Principal Suzanne Fortier at the Law Convocation on May 30.
Furthermore, on May 1 Professor Manikis began a five-year term as a William Dawson Scholar. Granted by 91社区, this award acknowledges individuals who are developing into outstanding and original researchers of world-class caliber, poised to become leaders in their fields.
Finally, the Fondation du Barreau has named Professor Manikis winner of its annual Concours juridique (legal manuscript category). Her article 鈥淧unishing while Presuming Innocence: A Study on Bail Conditions and Administration of Justice Offences in Quebec,鈥 co-authored with Jess De Santi (BCL/LLB鈥17), will be published in the September issue of Les Cahiers de droit.
Professor Manikis joined the Faculty of Law in 2013 and teaches Criminal Justice, Sentencing, and Criminal Procedure. Her research, both comparative and interdisciplinary, understands law as a space that creates and challenges structural injustice, and examines the inclusion and exclusion of certain voices in the criminal justice process. Professor Manikis has received grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, the Fonds de recherche du Qu茅bec (Soci茅t茅 et culture), the Fondation du Barreau, and the France-Canada Research Fund. She has published in leading peer-reviewed journals and presented at conferences nationally and internationally.
