The Faculty of Law is delighted to announce that Professor Pierre-Emmanuel Moyse will be promoted to the rank of full professor, effective 1 June 2022.

Professor Moyse joined the Faculty of Law in 2006 as a Wainwright Junior Fellow, before being appointed assistant professor in 2007. He is a member of the (CIPP), which he served as director from 2011 to 2020. After completing his first law studies in France and obtaining an undergraduate degree in integrated French-German business law from the University of Mainz, Germany, he obtained an LLM in intellectual property and a doctorate in law from the Université de Montréal. In parallel, he completed a Bachelor of Law for admission to l’École du Barreau du Québec, from which he graduated in 2000. He was a researcher at the Centre de recherche en droit public from 1995 to 2000. He is the founder and editor of Éditions Thémis’ Innovation and Competition series, and the editor of LexisNexis’ Jurisclasseur Propriété Intellectuelle.

Professor Moyse teaches and conducts research primarily in the areas of intellectual property, innovation, commercial law, and property law. In the 2014–2015 academic year, he taught a course on the Laws of Innovation at the University of Tel Aviv’s Buchmann Faculty of Law. He is a frequent guest of Paris-Saclay University, Université de Paris II (Panthéon-Assas), Roma Tre University, and the University of Trento. In 2015, he created an innovative course titled "IP in the Making"; offered in collaboration with Heritage Canada and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, it was aimed at introducing students to IP public policy. This course led to the creation of the National Copyright Policy Moot, of which the fourth edition was held in 2022.

As a practising lawyer, registered trademark agent, and expert, he regularly intervenes and pleads before the courts. In 2007, he successfully pleaded in Euro-Excellence v. Kraft Canada before the Supreme Court of Canada, one of the most important decisions of its decade in intellectual property. He practiced at intellectual property law firm Robic for several years.

“I am delighted to see this recognition of Professor Moyse’s international reputation for his leading-edge work in intellectual property, innovation, and policy making,” said Dean Robert Leckey. “His seamless integration of theory and practice and of multiple legal traditions exemplifies the ethos of 91ÉçÇř’s Faculty of Law and I look forward to his continued contributions.”

Congratulations, Professor Moyse!
