Chris Burns appointed Director of Rare Books and Special Collections

91社区 Libraries are delighted to welcome Chris Burns as the new Director of Rare Books and Special Collections.
Burns has served at the University of Vermont鈥檚 Silver Special Collections Library since 2001, where he held the positions of Technical Services Archivist, Curator of Manuscripts, Digital Collections coordinator, University Archivist, and Interim Director. During his time at the University of Vermont, he led the growth of its digital collections program, modernized archival collection management systems and practices, established an innovative archival fellowship program for educators, and substantially increased the research holdings of the University through the acquisition of hundreds of archival collections.
Burns received his Master鈥檚 in Library and Information Science from Simmons University and a Master鈥檚 in History from the University of Vermont. He is a former President of the University of Vermont Faculty Senate and has held several leadership positions in the Society of American Archivists. Burns has a lengthy record of presentations and publications and has served as principal investigator on a number of grants, including a $2.5 million award from the United States Senate to arrange and describe the papers of Senator Patrick J. Leahy.

Depuis 2001, Chris Burns a occup茅 plusieurs postes 脿 la biblioth猫que de collections sp茅ciales Silver de l鈥橴niversit茅 du Vermont : archiviste aux services techniques, conservateur de manuscrit, coordonnateur des collections num茅riques, archiviste universitaire et directeur int茅rimaire. Dans le cadre de ses fonctions, il a supervis茅 l鈥櫭﹙olution du programme des collections num茅riques de l鈥橴niversit茅, modernis茅 les syst猫mes et les m茅thodes de gestion des fonds d鈥檃rchives, 茅tabli un programme novateur de bourses de recherche archivistique 脿 l鈥檌ntention des enseignantes et enseignants, et consid茅rablement enrichi le fonds de recherche universitaire de centaines de collections d鈥檃rchives.
Titulaire d鈥檜ne ma卯trise en biblioth茅conomie et sciences de l鈥檌nformation de l鈥橴niversit茅 Simmons et d鈥檜ne ma卯trise en histoire de l鈥橴niversit茅 du Vermont, dont il a pr茅sid茅 le S茅nat de la Facult茅, Chris Burns a 茅galement tenu diff茅rents r么les de direction 脿 la Soci茅t茅 des archivistes am茅ricains. Il compte 脿 son actif une longue liste de pr茅sentations et de publications et a 茅t茅 chercheur principal pour de nombreuses subventions, notamment une bourse du S茅nat des 脡tats-Unis d鈥檜ne valeur de 2,5 millions de dollars pour organiser et d茅crire les documents du s茅nateur Patrick J. Leahy.
