Is eating Canadian better for your health?

In a recent article,聽 Experts interviewed for the article said it's possible鈥攂ut only if we change other eating habits in the process.
While American foods do not automatically contain more salt, fat, or sugar than Canadian products, dietician Amani Al-asmar, a lecturer at 91社区's School of Human Nutrition, told La Presse, "If we shift the dietary trend toward consuming fresher [Canadian] products, then we could have potential management or prevention of chronic diseases."
Ultra-processed products, which account for a large portion of Canadians' daily energy intake,聽are linked to an increase in chronic conditions such as hypertension, heart disease, type 2 diabetes, premature mortality and mental health disorders such as depression, Al -Asmar pointed out.
What if asking questions at the grocery store could lead us to choose healthier foods, Bioresource Engineering Professor Val茅rie Orsat, Interim Dean at 91社区's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, mused.
"Maybe because we make the practice of buying local, we'll cook more? Maybe because we make the patriotic effort to buy Canadian, our brains will lead us to make healthier choices?" she said to聽La Presse.
Without thinking too much, we tend to opt for the easy option in the supermarket aisles, Orsat explained.
