Presented by MUHC, Women鈥檚 Healthy Heart Initiative and Heart & Stroke
One in three women die of ischemic heart disease or stroke. Yet most women remain unaware of the risks they face: they are under-diagnosed, under-treated and under-researched.
Our learning objective is to increase awareness and knowledge about heart disease in women amongst healthcare professionals.
This symposium will include presentations by experts on sex and gender differences in heart disease.

Overall Learning Objectives for the Activity:
To understand the differences and similarities between women and men in heart disease across the lifespan
Learning Objectives for Specific Sessions:
- Provide an overview of how heart disease differs in women compared to men
- Describe the relationship between cancer and heart disease risk in women
- Review diagnostic and therapeutic considerations of spontaneous coronary dissection in women
- Describe the impact of gender, as opposed to sex, in heart disease
- Review sex differences in genetics of dyslipidemia and in lipid profiles
- Describe the importance of a pregnancy and reproductive history in establishing a woman's risk for heart disease
Describe a novel collaborative Nurse-Led heart disease primary prevention model of care
