Safe and painless sedation for children

The increased demand for services to provide sedation for children undergoing complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures led to the creation of an interprofessional sedation course.

The increased demand for services to provide sedation for children undergoing complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures led to the creation of an interprofessional sedation course by Dr. Teresa Valois, anesthesiologist at the Montreal Children鈥檚 Hospital, and her team.

For the past nine years, this course has been offered to fellows, residents, nurses, and MRI technicians in collaboration with the Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning at 91社区. In this innovative setting, learners have the opportunity to acquire knowledge and to practice their skills using the latest simulation technology, participating in team-based clinical scenarios using high-fidelity task trainers and standardized patients. 听All of the participants have expressed that this is a very positive learning experience that has changed their practice.听

鈥淚t is our hope to continue expanding this course so that it鈥檚 available to more health care professionals, to ensure that children are provided safe and painless sedation,鈥 says Dr. Valois.
