Using AI/ML to Revolutionize Management and Prognosis of Epilepsy

Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) is poised to transform epilepsy care, offering powerful tools for diagnosis, prognostication, and treatment planning. This talk will explore how machine learning and advanced neuroimaging techniques can enhance clinical decision-making, from predicting surgical outcomes to uncovering individualized seizure dynamics. Dr.听Gleichgerrcht听will discuss key methodological challenges, including data heterogeneity, model interpretability, and real-world validation, along with strategies to bridge these gaps. Finally,听Dr. Gleichgerrcht will highlight the translational insights emerging from AI applications in epilepsy and their potential to personalize patient care.

Dr. Gleichgerrcht is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at Emory University. He is board-certified in Neurology, Epilepsy, and Clinical Neurophysiology with a strong clinical interest in drug-resistant epilepsies, including invasive EEG monitoring as well as surgical and other non-pharmacological treatments, such as deep brain stimulation and responsive neurostimulation. As a clinician-scientist, his research focuses on integrating computational neuroimaging, neurophysiology, and neuropsychology/behavior to study brain function and neurological disorders.
