It's Sikh Heritage Month! Join the MSSA for Three Special Events!

April is , a time to celebrate the rich history, resilience, and contributions of Sikhs in Canada. This year, the 91ÉçÇø Sikh Students’ Association is hosting three events open to all, to celebrate Sikh heritage, values and teachings.

Sikhs have long been a vital part of Canada's story, including in academic spaces, forming communities that can learn from the past, and build a stronger future.

Registration is required for these events, and a allows you to sign up for one or more at once. Anyone interested in volunteering can mcgill.sikhs [at] ssmu.ca (subject: Sikh%20Heritage%20Month%20events%20volunteering) (email the MSSA).

  • Wednesday, April 2, 5:30 PM: Kirtan and Langar (devotional singing and a community meal) in room 5001 of the Brown building.
  • Monday, April 7, 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM: The documentary provides historical context, firsthand accounts, and an exploration of the long-term consequences of the attack on Sikh identity, political activism, and human rights.
  • Thursday, April 10, 6:00 - 8:00 PM: Come hear from the inspirational leader who was the first turbaned RCMP officer in Canada.

Canada's Sikh Heritage Month started in Ontario in 2013 when NDP leader and MPP Jagmeet Singh moved to celebrate the month of April as Sikh Heritage Month. Since , April is officially Sikh Heritage Month across all of Canada, where all provinces join in the celebration.
