Published: 19 February 2015

Come witness young students perform brain surgery for the first time

This Saturday, February 21st twenty CEGEP students will meet at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital – The Neuro, at 91 and the MUHC for a unique chance-to test their skills at ‘brain’ surgery. These students were prize winners at the Bench to Bedside Conference for Youth 2015 - geared at stimulating student career interests in medicine, surgery and medical research.

“The neurosurgical simulation centre offers an amazing opportunity for me to “experience” a bit of the work of a surgeon, as I am currently thinking about my future career choices,” said one student from Marianopolis College.

“I am proud that we can host this special event for these very enthusiastic students at The Neuro’s Neurosurgical Simulation Research Centre,” says Dr. Rolando Del Maestro, Director of the Centre. Utilizing NeuroTouch, the most advanced virtual reality simulator in the world, students will employ virtual surgical instruments to remove simulated brain tumors, learn to control bleeding and deal with simulated operative stress in a controlled laboratory environment.

The media is invited to what promises to be an exciting, eye-opening, and life changing experience for all!
