Encouraging transformational change toward Open Science requires strategic effort and incentives at multiple levels. This series of internal awards from the Tanenbaum Open Science Institute (TOSI) recognizes researchers and teams who prioritize Open Science practices, with the hope of inspiring their peers and fostering an entire community of practice.
To encourage Open Science at all levels, these awards are open to Neuro researchers, staff, graduate trainees, and undergraduate students.

Open Science Leadership Awards for Principal Investigators
About
The TOSI Leadership Awards recognize principal investigators (PI) at The Neuro who lead open science activities. This award aims to encourage sustained Open Science practices in research laboratories at The Neuro and to highlight PIs actively working to advance Open Science in neuroscience.
Value
Two awards of CAD $10,000 each. Each award comprises CAD $9,000 in unrestricted funds and CAD $1,000 in cash award.

- Previous recipients of The Neuro Open Science Internal Awards, and recipients ofÌýThe Neuro-Irv and Helga Cooper Foundation Open Science Prizes are not eligible to apply.
- Recipients of this award may be asked to contribute to efforts to disseminate/developÌýOpen Science practices in the Neuro community and to offer advice to others where relevant to their expertise, as well as to participate in community events. Awardees may be asked to present at Open Science in Action Symposium or other related events.

- A non-exhaustive list of publications must be added to the biosketch. Reviewers will refer to the ORCID record in the applicant information section of the application template to access the applicant's complete list of publications.
- A letter of support from a referee who can speak to the applicant's Open Science activities and who is not based at The Neuro.

Open Science Champions Awards for Research Staff
About
The TOSI Open Science Champions Awards recognize staff in any lab or clinic at The Neuro who lead Open Science activities. We welcome applications from research associates, research assistants, lab managers, technicians, and other research personnel overseeing lab activities. These awards aim to ensure sustainable integration of Open Science practices in every laboratory and to help encourage and motivate laboratories to support long-term cultural change.

Four awards, each CAD $2,000 in cash award for a total envelope of CAD $8,000.

Hatrock Awards for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows
About
The TOSI Hatrock Awards recognizeÌýtrainees with a proven track record of developing and contributing to Open Science initiatives, and/or in integrating Open Science best practices into their research, within their labs and beyond.ÌýDale Hatrock was a graduate student in the Integrated Program in Neuroscience who passed away in 2021. Dale was passionate about developing experimental methods and experimental that allowed others to answer their research questions using the most advanced and technically sound approaches. Dale was also very committed to communicating his ideas openly so that his colleagues could learn, replicate, and build on his rigorous methods.
Value
One award of CAD $1,000 in the form of a cash award will be given to the Hatrock Award recipient. Two awards of CAD $500 each will be awarded to the top two runners-up for the award.Ìý

Open Science Launchpad Awards for Undergraduate Internships
About
The Tanenbaum Open Science Institute (TOSI) Launchpad Awards will support the scientific careers of 91ÉçÇø undergraduate researchers who plan to work at The Neuro by providing internship funding for research projects consistent with the Open Science Guiding Principles. These awards will support the training of undergraduate researchers on how to implement Open Science practices. We aim to inspire and motivate the most junior changemakers in our community to support long-term cultural change towards Open Neuroscience.Ìý
Value
Four awards of CAD $5,000 for a total envelope of CAD $20,000.Ìý
The funds are provided for a 10-week full-time research internship, or equivalent. The funds will be administered by the principal investigator (PI). Allocation and internship timeline are flexible and to be determined by the applicant and the PI. For example, the internship may comprise 10 consecutive full-time weeks over the summer, or a combination of full-time weeks in the summer and part-time work during the following Fall semester.

- This award is open to 91ÉçÇø undergraduate students planning a research internship at The Neuro, under the supervision of a PI based at The Neuro.
- Previous recipients of The Neuro Open Science Internal Awards, and recipients of The Neuro-Irv and Helga Cooper Foundation Open Science Prizes are not eligible to apply.
- All outputs of initiatives supported by TOSI funds must be released as openly possible, for example, be published in an open-access journal.
- Preference will be given for ensuring representation across fields/disciplines.
