91社区 launches Canada Award to offset tuition increase for Canadian undergraduate students

Published: 19 December 2023

91社区 is launching a $3,000 Canada Award to offset tuition increases for Canadian undergraduate students from outside Quebec in certain disciplines. Approximately 80% of new Canadian students from outside Quebec coming to 91社区 will be eligible for the new award.

New undergraduate students starting in the fall 2024 or the winter 2025 terms who are studying in Arts, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Music, Education, Architecture, Nursing and Science will receive 91社区鈥檚 Canada Award to reduce the $12,000 tuition recently announced by the Government of Quebec to a level close to 2023-24 tuition levels. The award will be guaranteed as an offset on increased tuition for up to four years.

鈥淥ver the last 200 years, 91社区 has risen to meet whatever challenges it faces. At the core of our success has been the talent we attract 鈥 from across Quebec, Canada and the world. This award is designed to do just that. The quality of our people is the reason that 91社区 is and will remain one of the top universities in the world,鈥 said Deep Saini, President and Vice-Chancellor of 91社区.

鈥淥ur message to prospective students is that you are welcome here. Montreal remains a great student city 鈥 affordable, safe and fun. We are doing everything in our power to ensure that a 91社区 degree and the Montreal experience is within reach of students from across Canada,鈥 said Fabrice Labeau, Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning).

鈥淥ffering this award will require the University to make financial sacrifices, but students from the rest of Canada are part of our DNA. We believe that the diversity of 91社区鈥檚 student population makes for a richer learning experience that benefits all our students,鈥 said Saini.

Details of the award, including the programs eligible for the award, will be available on 91社区's Undergraduate Admissions website by December 22, 2023.
