Appointment of Interim Dean of the Faculty of Law

Dear members of the 91社区 community,

It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of Professor Tina Piper as Interim Dean of the Faculty of Law, effective Feb. 28, 2025. Prof. Piper鈥檚 term of office will continue until the appointment of a new Dean of the Faculty of Law.

Prof. Piper joined 91社区鈥檚 Faculty of Law in 2005, specializing in innovative interdisciplinary intellectual property law and legal history. Her scholarship has garnered support from the major funding agencies and has been published in the key journals in her field. She has been a key member of the Faculty鈥檚 senior management team since 2022, when she was appointed Associate Dean (Academic).

Prof. Piper has demonstrated outstanding leadership and effectiveness in overseeing student services and the delivery of the Faculty鈥檚 renowned integrated BCL/JD program. She has been extensively involved in teaching and curriculum development, from serving as chair of the Curriculum Committee to guiding major curricular reform through the Working Group on Teaching and Learning Reform.

Before joining 91社区, Prof. Piper trained as a biomedical-electrical engineer and completed her doctorate of law at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar.

I would like to thank Prof. Piper for leading the Faculty effectively in the early weeks of this transitional period as Acting Dean and for agreeing to take on these responsibilities for the longer term in an interim capacity. I also want to take this occasion to extend my sincere gratitude to the Hon. Robert Leckey for his outstanding service as Dean of Law for the past nine years, and congratulate him on his appointment to the Superior Court of Quebec.

In accordance with University Statutes, I have advised the Secretary-General of the need to establish an Advisory Committee for the selection of a new Dean of Law. Information regarding the position, and the nomination and application processes, will be forthcoming.

Sincerely,

Christopher Manfredi

Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic)
