As Coordinator of Clinical Education, Ms. Vaillancourt plays a leading role in teaching and clinical administration in the School. She teaches courses in her area of expertise which covers professional practice issues. She is centrally involved in managing and smoothly administering the clinical placement process, she supervises and mentors students in the MSc (Applied) program, and she offers training and support to Clinical Educators. She represents the School on committees within the Faculty of Medicine and broader community and helps to mobilize external resources and community support to create innovative clinical practice opportunities for SCSD students.
As a clinician, Ms. Vaillancourt worked in elementary schools, both rural and remote as well as urban, from 1999-2012 where she took a leadership role in the development and functioning of communication-based specialized classes. She has also developed her own phonological awareness program and dyslexia screener to enhance children’s reading abilities. She has been involved in clinical education since the mid-2000s.
Ms. Vaillancourt joined the SCSD in 2012. She has taken a leading role in developing Speech-Language Pathology services in remote areas (e.g. indigenous northern communities). Her specific interests lie in the areas of language disorders and reading acquisition, clinical training, and faculty development.
