September 2018 | Professor Barry Eidlin’s Labour Day op-ed published in the Washington Post

Assistant Professor Barry Eidlin published an op-ed in the Washington Post to mark Labour Day 2018, entitled While unions have taken a beating in recent decades, he notes, this year’s events offer some glimmers of hope for workers. The key is the arena of struggle. As he writes in the piece, "When judges and legislators determine labor’s fate, labor loses. When labor takes matters into its own hands, bringing the battle into the workplace and the public sphere, it at least stands a fighting chance.” He then illustrates this point drawing on his historical research on US labour unions and labour policy, drawing out the lessons for today.
