Biography

(PhD, University of Michigan, 2003). Associate Professor, at 91社区 since 2003. Professor Weiner鈥檚 research agenda to-date has focused principally on gender politics in Central and East European societies. Her book, Market Dreams: Gender, Class, and Capitalism in the Czech Republic, compared Czech women鈥檚 experiences and understandings of transformation in their work and family lives during the Czech Republic鈥檚 transition from socialism to capitalism. She has further explored the adoption and implementation of equal opportunity legislation 鈥 as part of European Union membership obligations 鈥 in several of the Central and East Europe states. Her research has also considered some of the (dis)connections occuring in gender mainstreaming efforts, using the European Union as a case study. Her current research endeavors focus on different provisions and obligations (e.g., legal) regarding the care of children in the Czech Republic and Canada and their implications for gender equality.
