What is an Occupational Therapist?

An Occupational Therapist is a health professional who:

  • assists clients to develop, maintain or regain function and quality of life due to developmental disorders or after an accident, illness, surgery or chronic illness
  • uses activities important to daily living and client education to promote skill development and assist clients in the domains of work, self-care, leisure, and school participation
  • works in acute care, rehabilitation, community settings, schools, industry and private practice
  • works with a wide variety of clients from newborn infants to the elderly
  • assesses and treats individuals with a variety of conditions including musculo-skeletal, neurological, medical, psychosocial, etc. conditions.
