Civil Engineering : Theory and design of specific processes used for the physical and/or chemical purification of waters and wastewaters, including mixing, flocculation, sedimentation, flotation, filtration, disinfection, adsorption, ion exchange, aeration, membrane processes, distillation, removal of specific inorganics and organics, taste and odour control, process control, sludge treatment. Bioresource Engineering : Management of water quality for sustainability. Cause of soil degradation, surface and groundwater contamination by agricultural chemicals and toxic pollutants. Screening and mechanistic models. Human health and safety concerns. Water table management. Soil and water conservation techniques will be examined with an emphasis on methods of prediction and best management practices.

Geography : Most problems in environmental science deal with weak relationships and poorly defined systems. Model development and simulation will be used in this course to help improve understanding of environmental systems.
