Neuroscience


Overview

The brain is one of the most complex systems in the universe聽and understanding how it functions is one of science's most significant challenges. The BSc. Neuroscience Major program seeks to provide you with the knowledge necessary to understand and contribute to scientific research in the field. You'll be learning in a highly interdisciplinary environment, with the program borrowing principles and methodologies from biology, biochemistry, physiology, psychology, mathematics, physics, computer science, and immunology.

You will start off with fundamental courses in physiology, biology, mathematics, computer science, psychology, and ethics. For your remaining core courses, you can choose between three streams of neuroscience: Cell/Molecular, Neurophysiology/Neural Computation, or Cognition/Behavioural. These core courses will be accompanied by complementary ones from relevant areas of science that best suit your interests.

Neuroscience is a competitive entry program with admission limited to 50 students per year.

Neuroscience is an interdisciplinary field. Students graduating from the program find opportunities in diverse areas like government, industry and academics. You may also wish to continue your studies and pursue a professional degree in medicine.

Student experience

Students in the Neuroscience Major program are eligible not only for university-wide scholarships but also for more than forty of the awards offered by the Faculty of Science. The majority of the awards are based on academic standing and several are targeted at specific populations (according to discipline, academic year,聽etc.). Financial assistance in the form of bursaries and loans is also available.

As a student in the BSc. Neuroscience Major, you can experience hands-on laboratory research by pursuing an independent research project under the guidance of an established neuroscientist at 91社区.
