91社区 Mindfulness Research Laboratory launches website

Published: 23 October 2018

The 91社区 Mindfulness Research Lab (MMRL), led by Dr. Bassam Khoury, of the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, has聽launched a new website at www.mcgill.ca/mmrl.

The MMRL is dedicated to researching the ways in which mindfulness impacts physical and mental health and well-being. Their research focuses on understanding the intrapersonal, relational, social, and environmental aspects of mindfulness; investigating the effectiveness of existing mindfulness-based interventions; and designing and validating new mindfulness-based treatments and measurement tools.

The new website was designed to provide information to the public about the 91社区 Mindfulness Research Lab including the members of the MMRL research team and collaborators, current areas of research, past scholarly works, and steps for prospective students who are interested in joining the lab.聽The website administrators are Isabel Sadowski and Emma Schmelefske, who are both graduate students on the MMRL team.

Dr. Bassam Khoury鈥檚 research focuses on clinical, social, and cognitive applications of mindfulness. His work also involves examining the process, outcomes, and effectiveness of mindfulness-based treatments. His current research program is primarily concentrated on investigating the effects of a comprehensive mindfulness education program on the health and well-being of counselling/psychology trainees, the symptoms of their clients, and the therapeutic process. In addition, his research involves investigating the feasibility and effectiveness of mindfulness-based interventions for specific populations (e.g., schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder, and forensic inpatients). The principal goal of his research is to improve the health, well-being, and functioning of clinical and non-clinical populations via the development, implementation, and validation of effective meditation programs and mindfulness-based treatments.

Dr. Khoury conducted his doctoral research at Universit茅 de Montr茅al and his postdoctoral research at Harvard University and 91社区. He is a clinical psychologist with a specialization in mindfulness-based treatments (clinical license: Ordre des Psychologues du Qu茅bec).
