Former 91社区 student听Russell T. Shinohara has been named the recipient of the 2023 Mortimer Spiegelman Award for "his听important听contributions to biostatistics and imaging, as well as his proven track record of leadership and mentorship."听

Dr.听Shinohara was an undergraduate and master's student in the 91社区 Department of Mathematics and Statistics and completed his Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University. He is now a Professor of Biostatistics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Paul Wiseman,听Professor of Physics and Chemistry at 91社区, has been named the听听of the Biophysical Society of Canada for his major contributions to the development of new quantitative microscopy tools to reveal hidden properties of biomolecules.

To celebrate , the Office of Science Outreach released a free lesson plan for elementary school teachers. The lesson, titled 鈥淭ravelling seeds鈥 explores how seeds are dispersed. The activities and discussions center inquiry-based learning, to encourage nature discovery through hands-on experiences and observations.

The lesson was shared with science consultants across English and French school boards in the Greater Montreal area and has already received over 40 downloads.

A team of researchers in Canada and India has developed a novel method to image the whole mouse heart wall at a spatial resolution that is three orders of magnitude finer than that seen till now, revealing entirely new, previously unknown cardiac fiber systems within it.

Alongside ALL IN 2023 happening in Montreal, global video game leader Ubisoft, Mila - Quebec Artificial Intelligence Institute, the world鈥檚 largest academic deep learning (DL) research institute, and 91社区 are proud to announce the creation of Ubisoft-Mila's new research Chair,听Scaling Game Worlds with Responsible AI. This five-year Chair will be led by 91社区鈥檚 Associate Professor, Dr. Derek Nowrouzezahrai, and will explore the ethical use of AI in the large-scale game development content creation pipeline.

If you鈥檝e been meaning to visit 91社区鈥檚 Redpath Museum, now is the time.

The historical building will undergo major renovations to bring it up to modern standards thanks to Ministry of Education grants, operating and accessibility funds, and the support of generous donors. The public can visit until the end of this year but will find doors closed at the start of 2024 when the work to pack and safely store the collections will begin. The construction part of the renovations will begin once that is completed, likely in the summer.
