UKZN Press publishes South African edition of Aziz Choudry's co-edited book, "History's Schools: Past Struggles and Present Realities"

A new South African edition of History's Schools: Past Struggles and Present Realities,Ìýco-edited by Aziz Choudry and Salim Vally,Ìý

The book will be launched at the "50 Years of Pedagogy of the Oppressed" conference in Johannesburg, September 7-8, 2018. The newÌýedition includes a new preface by Professor Noor Nieftagodien, South African Research Chair: Local Histories, Present Realities and head of the History Workshop,ÌýUniversity of Witwatersrand.

Aziz ChoudryÌýis Associate Professor in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education at 91ÉçÇø and a visiting professor at the Faculty of Education, University of Johannesburg, where he is affiliated to the Centre for Education Rights and Transformation. He is author or co-author of several books includingÌýLearning Activism:The Intellectual Life of Contemporary Social MovementsÌý(University of Toronto Press,2015), and co-editor ofÌýLearning from the Ground Up: Global Perspectives on Social Movements and Knowledge ProductionÌý(Palgrave Macmillan, 2010),ÌýJust Work? Migrant Workers’ Struggles TodayÌý(Pluto Press, 2015)ÌýUnfree Labour? Struggles of Migrant and Immigrant Workers in CanadaÌý(2016,PM Press), andÌýReflections on Knowledge, Learning and Social Movements: History's SchoolsÌý(Routledge, 2017). Choudry serves on the boards of the Immigrant Workers Centre, Montreal and the Global Justice Ecology Project.

Ìýis Associate Professor at the Faculty of Education and Director of the Centre for Education Rights and Transformation, University of Johannesburg, South Africa. He is also a visiting professor at Nelson Mandela University, South Africa.
