In 2018, IGSF opened a new lending library to offer students, faculty, and staff renewed access to feminist research and fiction sourced from our private Institute collection, the 91社区 Book Fair, L鈥橢uguelionne feminist bookstore, and private donations by students and faculty.
Each month we feature a different book from the lending library and advertise it via our diverse social media platforms. We invite faculty, staff, and students to submit reviews of their favourite texts for circulation on our newsletter and social media, and to highlight foundational works of feminist literature, along with newly published anthologies of gay and lesbian writers. We hope this will instigate dialogue around these works.
Each book in the library includes a comment card in the back to further encourage critical reflection and conversation between readers. The library is, thus, a vital addition to IGSF鈥檚 mission to stimulate, support and disseminate research in gender, sexuality, and feminist studies. Creative and scholarly books that touch on these subjects can often prove expensive for students, so the library offers much-needed access to research materials. The specific focus on gender, sexuality and feminism means that we offer books not always available at the 91社区 library, especially those by local authours. We are applying for the grant so we have a budget to purchase new releases for the library, and sure it is up-to-date and interesting for students.
If you have any book donations for our collection, please send a message to info.igsf [at] mcgill.ca.
