Short Bio

Joane is a graduate from the School of Human Nutrition of 91ÉçÇø and for the past 30 years, she has been working at her Alma Mater as a Stage/Internship coordinator as well as an academic advisor for the Dietetics major. Her position permits her to stay up-to-date in all facets of the profession while teaching and mentoring the dietitians of tomorrow as they go through their program.

She is responsible to identify opportunities, develop and orchestrate stages in local community organizations, an initiative enhancing partnerships and reflecting the engagement of the 91ÉçÇø community. Through that, third year Dietetics stage students provide nutrition education to various groups who expressed a need.

She had the honor of being a speaker for various events within the 91ÉçÇø community.

Joane acquired familiarity with board processes as she served as Board member for l’Ordre professionnel des diététistes du Québec for 9 years. She has served on the Board of Directors for Dietitians of Canada for 4 years.

She was the 2014 recipient of the prize from the Conseil Interprofessionnel du Québec honoring her involvements in her regulatory body as well as advancement of the dietetics profession.

Description

Examination of French skills for the practice of dietetics. Testing will include definitions, comprehension of scientific articles, writing, conversation, and reading of and charting in medical records. Students are encouraged to take French courses as needed in the School of Continuing Studies or the French Language Centre at 91ÉçÇø.
  • Restriction: Only open to students enrolled in the M.Sc.(Applied) in Human Nutrition; Non-Thesis - Dietetics Credentialing program.

Description

Introductory dietetic internship experience. Introduction to the hospital environment, client- centred care and the patient experience. Communication, dietary assessment, and nutrition education.
  • This course requires the ability to read in French, to understand spoken French and to speak French at a basic functional level for fieldwork experience.
  • Prerequisite(s): All U0 math and science entrance requirements. All U1 required courses of the Dietetics major (ANSC 234, LSCI 211, LSCI 230, NUTR 207, NUTR 208, NUTR 214, NUTR 217, NUTR 322, NUTR 343 and NUTR 341).
  • This course requires the ability to read in French, to understand spoken French and to speak French at a basic functional level for fieldwork experience.

Description

Four interrelated modules of directed experience in clinical nutrition, food service management, normal nutrition education and community nutrition, in health care settings and the private sector.
  • Winter: 11 weeks
  • Prerequisites: NUTR 311, NUTR 342 or NUTR 446 , NUTR 450, NUTR 505, NUTR 545 and NUTR 546.
  • This course requires the ability to read in French, to understand spoken French and to speak French at a basic functional level for fieldwork experience.
  • The course NUTR 409 includes a $125.00 fee for the Level III manual. The fee is refundable until the end of the add/drop period as long as the manual is intact.
