Dr. Leonard Levin is the2022 recipient of the Mildred Weisenfeld Award for Excellence in Ophthalmology:

Dr. Pierre Lachapelle was appointed as Emeritus Professor on September 6, 2022.

Dr. Miguel Burnier was Guest Lecturer for the Sao Paulo Academy of Medicine following the induction ceremony on July 14, 2021. He provided a IPEPO Lecture Series on July 21 and August 4, 2021. MUHC Foundation Health Matters Interview (podcast) on September 1, 2021.Guest Speaker & Chair at the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Congress on September 11, 2021. Dr. John Galic was an invited speaker at the Dalmatia Retina Meeting in June 2021.

Dr. Sonia Callejo wasappointed President of the Pan-American Ocular Oncology Society for 2021.

Dr. Frederick Kingdom was appointed Managing editor of a special issue of the journal Vision Research entitled “Coding Strategies in Binocular Vision”.

Dr. Pierre Lachapelle hosted the 58th ISCEV Symposium and Chaired the organizing committee. Dr. Lachapelle was guest speaker at the 2021 Annual Symposium of the Korean Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision on October 30, 2021.

Dr. Lachapelle’s manuscript was selected by the Editorial Board as a featured article in the TBME October Issue, 2021.

Dr. Leonard Levin was an invited panelist and lecturer on “Ball vs Chain: Axonal Protection Strategies for Optic Disc Drusen. Stanford University, Department Ophthalmology, Palo Alto CA. Dr. Levin and his team Angela Wong, Jeremy Zwaig, and Oliver Wu Martinez were first-place winners of the Marika Zelenka Roy Innovation Prize.

Dr. Leonard Levin and his team also placed 3rd in the 13th edition of the 91 Dobson Cup. The finals were held virtually on March 29 & 30, 2021.

Dr. Leonard Levin was appointed to the National Eye Institute Audacious Goals Initiative Steering Committee

Dr. Robert Koenekoop was awarded Best Surgical Teacher in the Department of Pediatric Surgery. He was appointed as designated PI for the Capital Campaign for Gene Therapy for Childhood Blindness, Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation. Vision Health Research Network (VHRN) a grant for $30,000.00 CDN to develop a Canadian Blindness Registry (Dr. RKK PI), to complement a grant from the Foundation Fighting Blindness (FBC) for $90,000.00 per year for 4 years.

Dr. Uri Saragovireceived a CIHR Grant for 1.2M for Proprietary Diagnostic Assay for Early Stage Ovarian Cancer”. September 1, 2021, for 18 months

Dr. Devinder Cheemareceived the 2019-2020 TCP (Transition to Clinical Practice) Teaching Awardfor Excellence in Teaching Ophthalmology.

Dr. Reza Farivarhas been appointed Director of the Integrated Program for Neuroscience, effective July 1, 2020.Comprising more than 400 graduate students and 200 supervisors, 91's IPNis the largest graduate neuroscience programin North America. For more information about IPN, visit/ipn/

Dr. Bryan Arthurshas been awarded the prestigious Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC) Clinical Teacher Award. This is a national award, which is given annually to a single individual for excellence in clinical teaching and exceptional clinical teaching contributions. Dr. Arthurs is the first faculty from 91 to receive this award since its establishment in 2014.

Dr. Pierre Lachapelle was given the 2020 Emikio Adachi Award in recognition for outstanding service to the International Society for Clinical Electrophysiology of Vision (ISCEV) over a long period as well as for a significant scientific contribution to clinical electrophysiology of vision.

Dr. Leonard Levin was inducted as a Fellow of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.

Dr. Hady Saheb is an invited lecturer at the upcoming Sally Letson Symposium in Ottawa September 12-14, 2019 which is on glaucoma.

Dr. Mash Darvish is an invited lecturer at the upcoming Atlantic Eye Symposium in Halifax September 27-28, 2019 where he will lecture on anterior segment problems.

Dr. Ali Hafez was the Local Chair for the 9th International Congress for Glaucoma Surgery - Palais de Congres, Montreal, September 6-8, 2018.

Dr. Robert Koenekoop was named Fellow of ARVO (FARVO), May 2018.

Dr. Leonard Levin was elected to the Glaucoma Research Society and was awarded the Transition to Clinical Practice (TCP) Ophthalmology Teaching Award.

Dr. Robert Hess and Dr. Ben Thompson, are recipients of a Project Grant from CIHR in the fall 2017round. Their project title is “An engaging, patch-free treatment for young children with amblyopia.” This is an ongoing collaboration of a project with the BBC England.

Dr. Kathy Mullen and Dr. Robert Hess have been awarded a grant from the “Oxford-Brain@91 Partnership” as funding for a pilot project in collaboration with Dr Holly Bridgeof the Wellcome Centre for Integrative Neuroimaging,Nuffield Department of Clinical Neurosciences,at Oxford University, UK, called “Multimodal investigation into neural markers of visual plasticity Amblyopia”. Congratulations to Dr. Mullen and Dr. Hess on this success!

Dr. Reza Farivar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology, Vision Research, has been awarded a Canada Research Chair (Tier 2)in Integrative Neuroscience.More about Dr. Farivar's researchcan be found .

Dr. Devinder Cheema is the 2017 recipient of the Royal College Regional Prix d'excellence - Specialist of the Year, Region 4. This award recognizes Fellows of the Royal College who have made significant contributions in providing outstanding care to their patients and the community in which they practice.

Dr. Miguel Burnier is one of 8 members of the Faculty of Medicine, 91, to be amongthe2017 Canadian Academy of Health Sciences New Fellows. This honour is awarded to those with a high record of substantial accomplishment in the Canadian health sciences community.

Dr. Pierre Lachapelle has been named one of only 41members of the ARVO (Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology)Fellows Class of 2017.The title of ARVO Fellow is an honor established to recognize current ARVO members for their individual accomplishments, leadership and contributions to the Association.

Dr. Bryan Arthurs received the Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology in the fall 2016 and is president of the Canadian Society of Oculoplastic Surgeons.

Dr. Hady Saheb received the Wong-Trope-Feldman Teaching Award 2016 for Best TORIC Teacher (Toronto Ophthalmology Residency Introductory Course).

Dr. Robert Koenekoop was selected as one of the recipients of the 2016 Senior Clinical Research Grant of the Retina Foundation of Canada.
