75th Anniversary Special
Message from the Chair
This year’s landmark 75th departmental anniversary with the theme “Looking Forward, Looking Back” was a great success and helped us create the Psychiatry 75th Anniversary Fellowship. This fellowship will support residents and postdocs in the pursuit of an academic career.
We have now raised almost $60,000 of our $100,000 goal, and I am very grateful to those of you who have donated. If you have not yet contributed or would like to increase your contribution, please use to help support the training of the next generation. All donations to this fund are tax deductible.
The 75th anniversary celebration featured interesting presentations by Drs. Kamaldeep Bhui, Alison Heru, Angela Roberts, and Tom Insel. A cocktail-dînatoire followed, providing a wonderful opportunity to see old friends and colleagues, connect with new ones, and enjoy a superb dînatoire menu, accompanied by energizing music provided by the Jeffrey May Quartet and our in-house DJs, Leonora King and Derek Albert. Emcees Drs. Mimi Israel and Joe Rochford were a great duo, and we were honoured to welcome Dean Eidelman and former Chair and Professor Emeritus Gilbert Pinard, who gave inspiring speeches to all present.
I wish to take this opportunity to recognize the members of the Departmental Day committee Drs. Marco Leyton, Gabriella Gobbi, and Nicola Casacalenda, our organizing committee of the evening program Drs. Kathy Myron, Joe Rochford, and Mimi Israel, and Kazue Narita, Martine Simoneau, and our team of volunteers for their tireless efforts in making the day a success. My sincere thanks to everyone involved! To all who attended the afternoon event, if you have not already done so, please complete the survey sent to you earlier by email. The results will aid us in our planning for next year.
I would also like to take the opportunity to express how grateful I am to be a part of this diverse and accomplished department. I would like to thank all the members of the Executive Committee, the Clinical Chiefs, the Directors, Program Directors, Site Directors and everyone else involved in our research, education and academic missions, I would also like to give a big thanks to Dr. Nicola Casacalenda, our Associate Chair, Clinical and Educational Affairs, for his support and friendship in the day-to-day management of our Department.
I wish you all a restful, joyful and pleasant holiday season. May the New Year bring us all exciting new challenges. Our departmental Psychiatry Weekly newsletter is going on a holiday hiatus as well, and we will see you in the New Year!
Meilleurs vœux à tous,
Gustavo Turecki, MD, PhD
