The theme of World Voice Day 2017 was performance voice. Free voice screenings, a vocal care and exercise workshop as well as a seminar presentation with experts on vocal health and performance voice were featured, and reached over 100 members of the Montreal public.
Students from the School of Communication Sciences and Disorders collaborated with Dr. Tiri Schei (University of Bergen, Norway) and her research group “Voice InFormation” to create a multidisciplinary workshop on vocal health for singers, actors and other professional voice users. In addition, an international assembly of experts working in the fields of laryngology (Dr. Karen Kost), vocal pedagogy (John Mac Master), artist identity (Dr. Tiri Schei), Broadway musical-theatre coaching (Julia Lenardon) and voice science (Dr. Luc Mongeau) spoke at the World Voice Day Seminar. Presentations included demonstrations of vocal coaching, live laryngostroboscopy examinations as well as research on voice ambulatory devices and vocal fold tissue engineering.
